Brenda and granddaughter Becca came for a visit today. We hadn't seen Becca for awhile, she lives out of town. We had a good visit and covered a lot of topics!
It was another nice day, the weather map looks like a week of nice days! Perhaps spring at last.
I used a box of "Hamburger Helper" for dinner. It was so-so.
We got up early enough today to get to Apple Valley Café before it was packed. 20 minutes after we got there is was full inside with a couple tables available in their atrium. We had their great omelets, best ever.
Read the Sunday newspaper, Sheila came for a visit in the afternoon.
For dinner we had salad, steak and fresh asparagus which I roasted in the oven with olive oil and garlic salt, sprinkled with a little lemon juice after it was roasted. Very good.
Memorial Day Weekend begins. Pictures on TV of the line of cars, campers, boats, etc. headed north to the cabins and lakes. (I would have gone on Friday, if not Thursday!)
It was a decent day, still on the cool side. Don started working on replacing the boards on the deck floor that are rotten. Big job just getting the old ones off.
We went to Panera for dinner. Not many people there. Some kids in the Prom clothing were eating there. They looked cute.
Rainy in the morning and then cleared to a nice day. We went for breakfast at Panera and then to HyVee for groceries.
For dinner Don picked up hamburgers at Five Guys.
Cold and rain today. We knew it was coming so made plans to get all our errands done and stay home today. Had to turn on the heat, had the AC on just a couple days ago.
We got caught up on some things and procrastinated on some other things!
Waffles seemed like a good cold night dinner!
We went to Perkins for potato pancakes. The server now knows what we order, sadly because we go for them so often.
Then we went to Sam's Club, we never buy much but there are somethings only available there. The store was almost empty of people.
For dinner we went to Chili's, hadn't been there for ages. We had fried pickles, ribs that came with Cole slaw and fries. Also a hot chocolate chip with ice cream and chocolate syrup that came with the meal. We weren't hungry but decided it sounded too good to decline!
We went to Walmart today for some groceries and a few other things. I got a new pair of sandals which I hope I can walk in with my sore foot.
Then we went to Home Depot to get Day Lilies to put around our deck. The squirrels leave the ones by the front door alone so we hope they will allow the new ones to live. Don planted them in the afternoon.
We have had our air conditioner on some of the day, mostly to get the humidity out of the air.
For dinner it was camper eggs - eggs scrambled with mushrooms, pepperoni and cheese.
Another Monday of cleaning the house. Last week I had all sorts of energy but today I wore down fast. Finally got it done after numerous rest times.
We had chicken for dinner with a salad and fresh pineapple. We got a pineapple last week for 88cents, turned out to be a good one!
We had our Sunday breakfast at HyVee restaurant. They always have good food, service can be spotty but OK.
Sheila and Brenda came for a visit in the morning. They got to "admire" our new bed. We turned on our air conditioner for the fist time this year.
For dinner we grilled steak and had a salad and baked potato.
Today was an important day for us! Our King size bed was delivered.
In the morning daughter Sheila and her husband Ken moved our old queen mattress and box spring to the garage for pick-up. We dealt with the bedding and got our bedroom ready for the new bed. The new bed was to be delivered between noon and 3 PM. Of course it was almost 3:00 when they arrived. It didn't take them long to set up.
We put the foam topper on the bed, it was suppose to sit for awhile to get the kinks out. We procrastinated all day until about 9 PM when we decided we needed to make the bed for the night. It is so good to have more room. I have room to sleep on my back! I didn't sleep well however.
We went to Panera for sandwiches and salads for dinner.
We had breakfast at Panera and then went to HyVee for groceries. It rained on and off in the morning and early afternoon.
I had an eye doctor appointment in the afternoon, just a check on my new contacts. All is well - 20/20 vision!
In the evening we went to Cracker Barrow for dinner. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table - their dinning room is not fully opened. We like their Friday fish and it was worth waiting. Had good service. Still people waiting when we left.
A stay at home day, dark and damp all day. We got some stuff done around the house. I did some reading and Sudokus. Good day for a nap.
We had pot pies for dinner.
We went for breakfast at Perkins - had their good potato pancakes! Then to Walmart for a "few" things. It was raining on and off but we managed to be going in and out when it wasn't raining.
In the evening we had not one, but two storm warnings where our phones buzzed and the tornado sirens went off. There were some tornados south of us but fortunately the storms weakened by the time they got here. It was strange as there was hardly any lightening or thunder, the storms seemed to come out of nowhere!
We got chicken from KFC for dinner. Went thru the drive-thru, the young man taking the orders was so bad. We ordered chicken breasts, he wanted to know if we wanted white or dark. We ended up with an extra chicken breast!
Today I got a lot of little pesky things done. I got the forms ready for reimbursement for our eye glasses, not difficult but takes a lot of time. Arranged the bathroom cupboard getting like items together and finding out what was hidden in the back! Other such exciting fun.
I actually fixed dinner! The dishwasher was so full it took me awhile to arrange everything so all would fit. I sure wouldn't want to wash anything by hand!!!
Cleaned the house, I found the energy to do all my part rather than half today and half tomorrow like I had been doing.
Don worked on his eBay in the afternoon, I read. Nice day, should have been outside!
We had leftovers for dinner.
We went out to breakfast at Denny's, we hadn't been to this Denny's for over a year and a half. We did do their carry-out a couple times. Also ate at a Denny's once in Florida last winter. Made a quick stop in Walmart.
Later in the morning our daughters came for a visit, always good to see them!
Don grilled smoked pork chops for dinner and had a salad and baked potato.
Mostly a stay at home day. I spent a lot of time on the computer catching up on things. We both did things around the house.
We got burritos from Pancheros Mexican Grill. It had been a long time, they are good but huge!
We went to HyVee for groceries this morning. Also picked up my new glasses and Don's new sunglasses. I like my glasses but have to get accustomed to them. Good to see better up close!
It was a cloudy day with rain forecast but we just got a little mist. The lawns and trees do need some rain.
Don picked up Chinese food for dinner.
We went to Panera's for breakfast, this time a different Panera. They had just reopened their dinning room. Then it was off to find a King size bed. The first place didn't have any and couldn't deliver until June. So we decided to try the store where we bought most of our furniture. They had what we wanted in stock and could deliver in a week so we bought a bed!
While eating breakfast I got a call from my podiatrist's office that she wanted me to go back to Abbot hospital for a couple more tests. I told them I would call back. I thought about it and have decided it the lead doctor at the wound clinic said I was good to go that I was not going through going there again. I have always maintained that if a person starts going to a doctor, it will never end - they will keep you coming back forever. Not going to happen.
Don grilled a ham slice for dinner which we had with a salad.
In my voicemail yesterday I had a message that I had an appointment today at the Wound Clinic (for my foot ulcer that doesn't heal) at Abbot NW hospital which is just south of downtown Minneapolis. I had never made an appointment but decided to go anyway. So today we fortunately got an early start as the exit we take to get there was closed, thankfully the GPS lead us around to the correct place. Then we circled the parking ramp to find a place for "visitors". The hospital is a maze, it has been added onto and things changed around probably many times. We finally found the Wound Clinic. I was suppose to see "multiple doctors" I just didn't realize it was all at one time. I had four doctors and a nurse hovering around my foot. The lead doctor decided my foot actually was OK, good blood flow, etc., just the sore. So I'm suppose to wrap my ankle and leg and wear some obnoxious heavy black shoes.
After the appointment the challenge was to find our way back to our car. We made a couple wrong turns but realized our mistakes quickly and redeemed the car after paying the parking fee.
We were exhausted and decided to get Subway sandwiches for dinner.
We went to Panera for bagels and coffee this morning. Also bought their "Baker's dozen" (13) bagels to take home. Tuesday special.
Then we went to get hair cuts. Mine hadn't been cut for 2 1/2 months so was was too wild. The woman cut too much so now it is way to short. I surprise myself when I look in a mirror. Good thing it grows fast!
Don got pulled port sandwiches and potato salad from the grocery store - a special.
Another Monday and did the usual, cleaned the house. Caught up on reading magazines in the afternoon. Slow day!
We went to daughter Sheila's home for Mother's Day brunch. Brenda and Scott had gotten home from their vacation so they were there as well.
The food was delicious of course. My daughters gave me a Fitbit to track my health! Sheila also gave me a plant that we will put on the front step and Brenda had already given me a lap blanket and a book. She also gave us some Maple Syrup and "toast' that they had picked up on their vacation.
We had a good time as always.
Stay at home day. It was fairly nice outside and so Don got out and did some things around the house.
I finished reading a book.
We brought home food from Panda Express. It had been a very long time since we got food from them. It was good and plentiful.
We went for bagels at Panera again today and then had 5 errands to run! How do we keep so busy??? And spend so much money????
It is Granddaughter Becca's birthday today!
I am wearing my contacts longer at a time, am up to about 10 hours now. So good not to have to wear glasses.
Back to Panera for salads and sandwiches for dinner. We brought them home to eat.
Today I went to the podiatrist. This is a different doctor than I have been seeing as the former no longer accepts my insurance. She wants me to go to a "wound clinic" as the ulcer on the bottom of my foot doesn't heal.
Another cool day, it is May and I would think we could get some nice weather! The only good thing about the cool weather is the trees that are in bloom may hold their flowers longer! I am anxious for some nice spring weather! I refuse to wear my winter coat and instead wear a heavy shawl.
We brought in sandwiches from Arby's for dinner.
We went for breakfast at Panera and then to Walmart for groceries. After that I stopped in my eye doctors office to pick up my new contacts. I wore the contacts for about 5 hours in the afternoon. (They are Boston contacts - the hard variety) It's like breaking in a new pair of shoes! It sure feels good to have contacts rather than glasses!
We had some microwave roast beef for dinner.
Finished my house cleaning and then off to run errands. Seems like we keep very busy with just non interesting stuff.
I made tuna casserole for dinner, something I like but Don is not thrilled with. He ate it anyway!
Half cleaned the house today. I can't seem to muster up the energy to do it all in one day like I did before I got sick.
Sheila came for a visit in the evening in her Kentucky Derby hat!
We went to the Apple Valley Café for breakfast. They had been closed during the pandemic but now opened again. By the time we left it was packed with a waiting line. They have good, home cooked food. Their omelets are like no other.
Then Don had a couple places he needed to stop and it was home to read the Sunday newspapers and watch the Sunday news shows.
It was a cool day with showers on and off. We grilled some steak for dinner.
