Monday Tuesday

We are in a Florida heat wave.  We can leave the windows open until about noon then it's AC time.  We have done basically nothing.  10 AM coffee is the highlight of our days.

I have two ant bites on one ankle (highly allergic to ant bites) which are driving me crazy.  With oral meds, anti-itch cream on the bites and and ice pack now and again I am staying sane.

Sunday in Florida

We always get two Sunday papers when we are here at Sumter Oaks, the Leesburg paper delivered and we pick up the Tampa paper.  People ask WHY, just because we want - is that a good enough reason?

Our refrigerator/freezer has settled down to 1 degree freezer and 38 degrees refrigerator.  So I guess we don't have a problem thank goodness.

We have a hot day going but the humidity is down.  About ready to grill some steaks.

Refrigerator

When I opened the refrigerator this morning the freezer temperature read 24 degrees, yes - while that is still below freezing it usually reads from 0 to 2.  There seemed to be a lot of frost in the "frost free" freezer so I ran a defrost cycle (it always cycles during the night).  Then the freezer was 38 degrees and the refrigerator 44, usually 38 degrees.  We thought we my have a problem but during the day the temperatures slowly dropped to 14 freezer and stayed at 44 refrigerator and since we are expecting a cool night will probably drop more.  The only thing we can guess happened is the the ice dispenser door didn't close and let hot air into the freezer for several hours.  Always something with a motor home!

We went to Captain D's in Dade City for dinner.  Not all the snow birds are here yet so there was plenty of space.

Sun eclipse

The roto-rooter man came out and cleaned out the campground sewer, had tree roots clogging.  The window man came and repaired the rock ding in our front window, can hardly see it now AND it is guaranteed to not spread.

We did a Bushnell run to the post office, CVS Pharmacy and then ate dinner at Coyote Rogo, a good Mexican place.

The "sub tropical" storm that was heading towards Florida has now broken up and no longer any threat.  We have been having warm days in the mid 80's and cool nights in the mid 50's.  Was good to sit outside this afternoon and read.

Getting set up

We cleaned the motorhome, somehow it gets so dirty when we are on the move.  We found the sewer was clogged in our area of the campground, happens every couple years - tree roots grow into the sewer pipe.  We let the management know so they could call someone.  We called our insurance about the chip we picked up in the window, they will send someone to seal it so it doesn't spread.

It was good to see old friends at 10 AM coffee.  More and more of the yearly people are coming in every day.

Got hot and humid today so had the air conditioner on all afternoon.  There is a "sub-tropical" storm brewing by Mexico which may be heading to southern Florida so we may have some effects from it depending on the course it takes and if it intensifies.

Got to Florida

We got up at 5:30 and were on the road by 6:45.  We had a long 10 1/2 hour day of traveling.  It was hot, hotter as we got south in Florida and there was a lot of traffic.  BUT as is well that ends well!  We got parked and utilities hooked up before it got dark.  Good to be here.

No travel today!

Another day off from travel!!!  We went to Foley for Crispy Cream donuts and coffee and then drove around the Gulf area.  Stopped to get a newspaper and read that in the afternoon.  In the evening we got things picked up so we could be ready to roll tomorrow.

Ever wonder how many doughnuts can be made an hour? http://t.co/jKd3luim2h

Foley today

So good to have a day off from traveling!  We went to Don's favorite breakfast place, Foley AL Waffle House.  Has to be the one in Foley---

Then I went to Pottery Barn, always a fun place to check out.  I bought a couple little things.  Don went to Camping World and Coleman's.  He just bought a spike to hold down the satellite stand.

In the evening we went back into town (campground out in the country) and brought home Long John Silver's fish for dinner.

On the road again

Another travel day.  We went from Vicksburg, MS to Gulf Shores (Summerdale) Alabama.  We took I 20 to Jackson and then south to Bay Port where we caught I 10 to the Gulf Shores turn off.  About a 8 hour day.  We stopped for diesel twice - once early on and once late, always a challenge with our big rig.  It was good to get to our campground.  We went into town for dinner at Zachbys chicken plane for dinner.  We aren't accustomed to the warmer weather yet!

A 4 state day.

9 hours on the road today from Hollister,  MO to Vicksburg, MS.  The first part is hard from the curbs that narrow down the road to hills and curves.  Finally, finally we got to interstate but then we had to drive through Little Rock, AK.  The all was OK but long and hot.

We got to our campground in Vicksburg and assigned a site only to fine other people were in that site SO we took the site next door.  Got all leveled and slides out only to discover we only had 30 AMPS.  We were too tired to move so are dealing with the decreased electricity.

Went to Chick fil a for a salad for dinner.

Apples

We went on a search for Arkansas Black Apples.  We found some at our usual place by Harrison, Arkansas.  They are picked late so it can be hard to find them in mid October.

Outlet malls

We visited the two outlet malls in Branson today.  Didn't buy a thing, nothing we needed or wanted!  Afterward we went back to the Grand Country Buffet for lunch and then home for a nice nap.  We stayed home the rest of the day.

The weather just doesn't seem to want to clear.  We get a little rain every day and getting plenty tired of rain.

Toss me a roll!

This evening we went to eat at Fall Creek Steak and Catfish House home of the trowed rolls.  We had a good dinner and caught a couple of their very good rolls.  It is an interesting and VERY popular place.

Rain again

Yet another rainy day!  When will this ever end?

We went to McFarland's for breakfast and then  went to Kohl s where it bought nothing.  I see a lot of Kohl s stores and this one was the messiest I have ever seen.  Also went to Walmart for a few groceries, because we are eating out we don't need much!  We spent the rest of the day around home reading the Sunday Springfield paper, etc.  The rain let up enough to grill steaks in the evening.

The Haygoods

Rain all day but not as much as was predicted thank goodness.  We went for breakfast at the clubhouse and stayed home most of the day.  We got a sandwich from Sonic and then went to one of our favorite shows "The Haygoods".  We first saw this show at Silver Dollar City when the kids were really young and now years later they have a high energy show on the Branson Strip.  They use lots of lighting effects and pyrotechnics.  We enjoyed the show as always.

Rainy Friday

It started raining very hard at 4 AM, woke us both up.  It rained most of the day.  We decided to go to the Doug Gabriel show at 10 AM,  we had a coupon for half price.  So we had to rush along a bit as it is on the other side of the area.  (We had seen his show a few years ago and enjoyed it then.)  He had a very good show, almost 3 hours long.  After the show we went to our all time favorite buffet,  Grand Country.  We had a great lunch, ate too much.  My favorite thing there is the crescents, light and tasteful!

We spent the rest of the day at home.  We were in need of a good nap having been woken up so early by the rain and eating so much for lunch.

Dinner at Rib Crib

Spent the day getting caught up on things.  I washed a couple loads and put away stuff, Don debugged the front window (two days worth of bugs).  In the evening we went for dinner at our all time favorite rib place, the Rib Crib.  We had great ribs with lots of meat on them, ordered two sides - potato salad and onion rings - and the dinner came with two additional sides - slaw and corn on the cob.  We had SO much food.  I couldn't eat all of mine but Don polished his off.

Branson today

Made it to Branson,  MO "Country Music Capital of the World"  as they tell me.  It seemed like a long day but only about 7 hours.  We had to put on the air conditioner, first time in awhile.  It was hard to find a spot to park that we could stay in for a week even though we had made reservations.  We finally got a nice spot.  Looking forward to touring Branson again!  Went to Fudruckers for hamburgers for dinner.

On the road again!

Made it to Osceola Iowa today.  Weather started out cool but warmed.  We had a west wind all day.  Basically a good trip.  Kansas City tomorrow and on to Branson.

Visit with family

We have to say goodbye for awhile to our family.  We all went out for pizza and a lot go visiting.  Was so good to be around everyone this summer!  Tomorrow we head south and not any too soon as the weather in Minnesota is getting chilling!

One last time

We went out for breakfast "one last time before we head south" at Little Six Casino and then got hair cuts "one last time before we head south".  We were going to get a sandwich at Arby's for dinner but Don decided we needed to go to Little Six again for their Prime Rib night "one last time before we head south".  It was raining hard so had to make a run for the car.

Cold, Rain

October 1 already,

A cold and rainy day again.  We went for lunch at McDonald's and then ran a couple errands.  Took more time than it needed to as we got into a traffic tie-up because of street reconstruction.  We stayed home for dinner, ate up the remainder of our farmers market vegetables.

We visited Glacier National Park about this time of year a few years ago and had beautiful fall weather.  You never know-----

It snowed, and the Going-to-the-Sun Road is temporarily closed between Avalanche and St. Mary . Approximately 6 inches of snow reported on the road near Road Camp, on the west side below Logan Pass. There are snow accumulations at St. Mary and on the east side too. Check out the park's web cams for timely images across the park, and our road status info on the park's website for updated road info. (dg)
