Halloween

It's great to have a microwave again!  Never know how much something will be missed until you don't have it available!

We went to McDonalds for breakfast and then to WalMart where again we spent a lot of money.  After that to CVS Pharmacy for a couple things and back to the park.  We were in time for 10 AM coffee.  Some more people had arrived in the park.

It was yet another hot day!

Installed!

The man came to install the microwave this morning.  He knew exactly what he was doing and only took 30 minutes to remove the old one and put in the new one!

It is good to have a microwave again, one of those things a person doesn't realize how much they use.

Another hot day, it is just hard to go outside.  I am not looking forward to seeing our electric bill.

We fixed dinner at home, in the microwave!

New Microwave

We went to Brooksville to find a microwave.  The first place we stopped, Lowes, had a nice selection and good prices.  We still looked further but went back to Lowes.  We got a highly rated Samsung, fairy basic MW.

Then we went to lunch at Steak and Shake and made a couple other stops before going home.  We went to Zaxbys for salads for dinner.

Don made calls trying to find someone to install the MW.  Prices ranged from $110 (and would take the old MW away) to $250 (and would not take the MW away).  So we went with the $110, he said he could come tomorrow or Thursday.

Looking for a MW

After we cleaned the house we spent the day checking out microwaves on-line.  We called the warranty company for our trailer - there is a $200 deductible.  They will pay to fix the old MW if at all possible, if not possible they will replace.  We don't want the same old problem to come again, so decided to look for a new one not using the warranty.

It has been another hot and humid day, this is getting to us.  We went into town to get a sandwich for dinner.

MW troubles

We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  Such a hot and humid day, we go from air conditioner to air conditioner, don't want to spend any time outside.  In the afternoon weather on my phone showed 87 degrees, feel like temp 100 with the humidity.

When we got home from breakfast, I was going to warm up my takeout coffee but something in the microwave went pop.  The microwave would light up, turntable turn but no microwave power.  I have never had a microwave problem in the many years, probably 40 years we have had a microwave.  It is under warranty as part of our trailer so now we have to figure out the best and least expensive way to get it fixed or hopefully replaced in a decent amount of time.  It is amazing how much I miss not having a MW!

Dade City

We did stuff around home, washed some clothing, etc.  We went for dinner at Captain D's in Dade City.  We have been there many times but the last time, last spring, we went there we were disappointed.  We decided to try it again and were disappointed again.  Prices UP - food Down.  So we probably  will not go back.

It was a nice trip to Dade City anyway.

We had some rain during the day just to help with the humidity.  This heat and humidity is getting old.

Zaxby's

Rain was forecast for today but never happened, it was hot and humid!  We did stuff around the trailer and went to 10 AM coffee.

For dinner we went to Zaxby's at the intersection south of us.  This was the first time at this Zaxby's but we have been to other locations.  This one was still under construction when we left last spring.  Good to have some new eating places around as this area is short of them.

After dinner we went to Winn Dixie grocery store for half and half and ended up spending $44.  We got some cranberry ginger ale, T-bone steak - which was on sale, a cherry pie, ice cream and sweet potatoes and some other things.

Forked tail

Rain threat all day but only got a few sprinkles.  Humidity is back!  We stayed home except for going to the park's 10 AM coffee.

We got a few things done around the trailer, otherwise a slow day.

Lizard with forked tail!

Top 10 Weather Day!

Today we went to Brooksville.  Not much has changed since last spring except the major intersection is no longer under construction.  That rebuild took about 2 years!

We went to Panera for a Bagel, then to Aldi's for groceries.  Then CVS drug store and Walmart.  Stopped to get some lunch to take home.

It was a Top 10 Weather Day as they would say in Minnesota.  Not too hot and low humidity.  The weather people say this will be our last rain free day for a week.

90 degrees!

We went to 10 AM coffee this morning for the first time this season.  Not many people were there, 2 of my friends and two new women at the woman's table.  Was good to catch up with them.

It got up to 90 degrees today and very humid.  I stayed inside and did computer stuff but Don replaced the rope lights that were around our deck/steps with some new ones.  The old one were dirty and some were no longer working.

We had shrimp lo mein for dinner.

Hornet's Nest

We had a huge Hornet's nest over our shed which required professional removal.  That would not be a job for me!  The two men wore suits that covered all and hats with netting.  It didn't take them long to get the job done.  They said there were 3 Queen hornets and about 5,000 hornets.  They might want to come back to retake the area so they will be watching.

It was a hot and humid day, air conditioner ran on and off all day.  We went to town for hamburgers at a place that has a Monday special.

Waffle House Country

We ate breakfast at the Waffle House, great as always.  Then we went major grocery shopping so have enough food for a few days!

It was a hot and humid day, no rain anyway.  Once I checked it was 85 degrees and with humidity 90.  Could hardly stand not being in Air Conditioning!

We continued to work on getting stuff done around the house.  I got the Dish TV programmed, they have to change it every so often just to keep people on their toes.  Hope it works now.

Grilled pork-chops for dinner along with a salad and baked potato.

Waffle with pecans inside!

Hester fizzled

We got up late this morning after 10 hours of sleep.  We were exhausted and our bed is super comfortable.  It rained most of the night and very humid, we had the air conditioner on and it ran most of the night.

We worked at getting stuff done and slowly we did get most of it put away.  We got the Dish TV up and running, always get someone on the phone whose first language is not English.  They never seem to fully understand what we want to accomplish.

It rained on and off all day, but Tropical Storm Hester fizzled out.  Again tonight we are tired, somehow we need to make this less of a major event.

Florida and Nester

Made it to our place in Florida.  The traffic was horrible, lots of trucks and people were either super slow or super fast.  We ran with the fast crowd.  Our trailer was in good shape when we arrived then we unloaded all our stuff.  I worked at putting it away until I couldn't do it any longer.

We went to town for a few groceries, enough for the next couple days as Tropical Storm Nester is headed our way so we will just hunker down.  We went to bed early, very tired.

Another day on the road

Another 10 hours on the road and we arrived at Prattville (Montgomery) Alabama.  Not so much construction and just a couple slow downs.  This is our hard day on the road as we have to navigate our way through Nashville.  Turn right, turn left, turn right, etc.  Thank goodness for GPS, a good map reader and a good driver!  Lots of traffic, lots of trucks.

We got to Prattville and ate at a favorite place we discovered a few years ago.  I had see on my phone that a tropical storm was brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and will be headed to Florida.  It isn't suppose to be a hurricane.  We will keep watch, but plan to head that way anyway.

My let is better, about half the redness is gone.

Off to Florida

We got on the road today, we got to Effingham, Illinois after 10 hours in the car.  The weather was good but we had a ton of road construction.   Many areas with cones and/or barrels  set up narrowing the highway and not a construction equipment or person in site.  Not even any work started.  Made us wonder if they just had some spare cones and barrels they wanted to use to harass the driving public?

The day went well after an almost horrible start.  We were a couple blocks from our home, in the dark, when a bicycle crossed in front of us.  We were seconds away from hitting him.  Bikers think they always have the right-of-way and are above the rules of the road.  He was lucky.  So were we as we sure didn't want to hit him.

My leg is a little better, back a little better.

No Go

We got up early to leave.  I had a terrible night, chills, fever and over again.  My back  was killing me.  I got up and took a shower thinking that would help me feel better, it made me feel worse.  Don took a look at my leg and it was bright red, cellulitis.  He made the decision that we would stay home and I would go to the doctor.  No way we could be on the road.

I got into the Minute Clinic (hardly a minute)  and it was confirmed to be cellulitis.  I was prescribed some high powered antibiotic.

We had to eat out as we were out of food!

All set, I hope

Cleaning the house and finish packing were my jobs for today.  My back began having intense pain in the afternoon, I finally took a pain pill and was able to carry on.  I had no choice or so I thought.

We ate our last of the meals in the refrigator and went to bed early to get up early and get on the road.

Sunday and stuff to do

We went to breakfast at Denny's then a quick stop at Walmart and to the Post Office.  We read the Sunday Newspapers and then I did a little packing or more like getting stuff together and I cleaned the refrigerator.

It is too early to do the packing of stuff we will need before we go so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

This is our daughter Sheila and husband Ken's 29th wedding anniversary!

First step is getting ready

After some procrastination  I started to pack for the trip to Florida.  Hard to know what to take, but then there is always Walmart for what I forget!  As I predicted, my back started to hurt.  I could go just so far with the packing as many things we will need before we leave.

We got hamburgers and fries from Five Guys for dinner.  Watched some TV we recorded.

Cold and pizza

We got a few groceries this morning, stuff we will need when we get back.  It was cold out with a cold wind, just not ready for winter yet!  We even had a few snowflakes.

In the evening we went to daughter Sheila's house for pizza and homemade root beer.  All was good, even better was the company:  Sheila and Ken and Josh, Brenda and Scott.

Getting ready to get ready

I started to pick what to take to Florida.  How much is the question.  I want to leave clothing there for when we go back in January so while I want to take good stuff, I also want to leave good stuff at home.

Don got the deck cleared of the remaining plants, etc.  He put the table and chairs in the garage and he worked on cleaning the inside of the car.

Takes a lot of planning and work to get on the road!

Red Maple tree in our yard!

Getting Stuff Done

Getting stuff done - at last.  Today I cleaned the shower, it is white ceramic tile so doesn't show the soap scum but you can feel it.  It took a lot of work, cleaner and eraser bar but it now is bright and shiny!  I also cleaned the oven, but all that takes is turning the dial to "clean" and locking the door.  Then when it is done, wipe up the ash.

I also spent time on the computer getting stuff caught up.  Made appointments for eye doctor here and dentist in Florida.  Made photo copies of important documents and cleaned out the file I take with me.

Sheila came over in the evening with vegetables and a visit.

Another nice Fall day!

We went to Panera for a bagel this morning.  Then it was to Walmart, no groceries, just stuff we need to take south and that came to about $40!  Not that there isn't a Walmart in Florida.

We are working hard on getting copies of our will, etc. and getting an emergence phone number list together.  It's good for family to have and for ourselves!

For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs that I had frozen from a couple weeks ago.  I don't think we are going to get everything eaten up before we leave.

Monday again

Clean house day again.  We are such dirty people, actually most involves putting stuff where it belongs.

We had leftovers for dinner.  Nice day outside, wish we could have gone out.

Sunday, October 6, 2019

Sunday

Breakfast at Perkins.  We don't have a Perkins anywhere close to us in Florida so want to take advantage of their potato pancakes while we can.  Then we went to Menards, like usual they didn't have what I wanted.  Came home to read the newspapers.

In the afternoon, after a nap, Don worked on making copies of our official documents.  I cleaned out my plastic box of plastic storage items.  It something didn't have a lid, it was gone.  I cleaned the whole cupboard before I was done!

We are in the eat everything up mode so had something from the refrigator for dinner.

Slow Saturday

Saturday is usually a slow day for us.  We lull around and finally get going on a couple projects.  We went for dinner at Chili's and that's about all we did.

First thing in the morning we went to the airport to retrieve Brenda from a week conference in Orlando and then take her home.

This is worth a long look!

Getting stuff done!

We went to the grocery store for just a few things.  Even the checkout lady, who usually checks me out, mentioned how few things we were buying!  We are cutting back so as not to have so much to get rid of before we head south.

Then we went to our bank, TCF, to get our wills, power of attorney and health directives notarized.  They were very accommodating, getting us witnesses to sign as well.  Now we need to get copies.

Back to the grocery store for Chinese Food for dinner.

This was true when I worked, so nice to be retired!

Home day

A stay at home day.  We both had some things we wanted to get done.  I worked on getting my WEMO light switch to turn on and off at set times again.  It wasn't even connected to the internet.  It got it to work on Alexa voice commands but still not the timer.

We are looking deep into our freezer trying to get stuff eaten before we head to Florida.  So we had shrimp for dinner!

IKEA

IKEA today.  We had breakfast - Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam, bacon, breakfast potatoes and scrambled eggs and lots of free coffee.  Then we walked the whole store, picking up stuff as we went along.  We also got the usual ground coffee, jam and cookies.  By that time it was lunch time.  We had salmon with some good sauce, barley and green beans.

We were tired when we got home!

Too full for dinner so we had some cantaloupe, apples and bagels.

First day of October

Sure enough it cooled down today - a lot.  Also rained on and off.  We went to Panera for bagels and then to Walmart.  Got a little wet going in and out!

We hadn't celebrated Taco Tuesday for awhile so did so for dinner.
