Last day of August

Cleaned the house again, now I don't have to think about that for a week.  Also washed towels, I put in some softener/scent stuff that I had gotten a sample.  It smelled up the whole house and I had just used about a forth of what was recommended.  The towels smell some, not too bad.

It was another nice day, windows open all day.  We went to KFC for chicken for dinner, had been awhile.

Flying and Moving

We went for breakfast at HyVee, they have breakfast specials every day of the week until the end of September.  They always have good food and good service.  Came home and read some of the Sunday newspaper and watched Meet the Press.  It's amazing how politicians can go around a question and never give an answer, even when the question is asked several times.

Later in the morning Brenda came for a visit, she had been flying.  In the early evening Sheila came for a visit, she had been moving her kids to their college houses and not without difficulties of course.

The weather was exceptionally nice today.  We grilled steak and had potatoes and a salad.

Don completely  agrees with this:

Lazy Saturday

Lazy morning, beautiful day.  Dry and not too hot, not too cold.

We did things around the house and took a nap.  In the evening we got dinner from Panera - sandwich and salad.

Bagels, hearing aids and meatloaf

Bagels at Panera this morning followed by a trip to HyVee for a few groceries.  In the afternoon we went back to the hearing aid place and purchased hearing aids for Don.  It took awhile to adjust the sound, etc.  He will probably have to go back a few times to get the sound level worked out just right.

There was a storm pass through about 3AM last night.  Lots of lightning and thunder and some rain.  It all cleared off this morning and the sun was out.

We got meatloaf from HyVee for dinner, came with two sides.  A lot of food.  Meatloaf was good, but not as good as I make.

Not a pleasant thought:

Hearing ???

We (especially me) were lazy this morning.  It is another nice but hot day, we know rain is coming our way tomorrow as hurricane Laura moves north.

There was a lot of rioting and looting in downtown Minneapolis last night.  The word on the street was police shot a black man when in fact the man shot himself.  At any rate I really denounce the rioting and looting.  Peaceful protests are fine and make more sense as they bring attention to the problem without making people mad.

In the afternoon we went to check out hearing aids for Don.  We got some good answers, even though the salesman wanted us to buy right away we decided to think it over until tomorrow.  Big purchases are good to think about overnight!

We grilled brats for dinner.  Avoided the Republican convention again on TV.

National Dog Day

We went to Perkins for our usual potato pancakes and then to WalMart for a few things.  More heat and more humidity today.

Seems the new computer is working well but now it wants to update which scares me as that's what finally took down the old computer.  Guess I have to give it a try.

The Republican National Convention is on TV all this week so have to find something else to watch!.

We had the spaghetti dinner we bought from Olive Garden last Friday along with a salad and garlic toast.

It's national Dog Day (not that every day isn't dog day if you have a dog)

"It's not the heat it's the humidity"

In the morning Don went to investigate hearing aids and to get the nose piece on his glasses repaired.  I stayed home continue my battle getting my new computer sat up as I like it.  It took me a minute to get one thing done, helps to think about it overnight!

It was a hot and humid day and appears that will be the story all week.  At least no hurricane although we may get some of the rain on Friday.

Perkins had a special on their "skillets" so we got shrimp skillets for dinner.  They had broccoli, rice, onions and peppers with the shrimp and some sort of glaze.  Good.

Happy National Waffle Day

House cleaning day again, the only good part is getting it done!   No sun today, not sure it is clouds for smoke from the the fires in California and Colorado.

Being it is National Waffle Day, I changed my plans for dinner and we waffled waffles.

Sunday in Apple Valely

We had bagels at Panera for breakfast and then came home to read the Sunday newspapers.  We also watched Face the Nation.

Sheila came for a visit in the afternoon and then we finished the newspapers.

We grilled some steak and had corn-on-the-cob and a salad for dinner and watched some TV.

Day after

I picked up the house this morning, I don't know how it gets so cluttered with just the two of us living here.  We got our meds that had been shipped 13 days ago.  They usually arrive in a week but 13 days is acceptable.  I got even more birthday greetings on Facebook!

For dinner we had leftovers from last night along with a salad.

Happy Birthday to me!

We celebrated my birthday all day, that is the way it should be!

Breakfast was at Perkins as they gave me a breakfast for free.  Then we went to HyVee for groceries.  I actually like going to the HyVee store, it is such a nice place.

In the evening we went to Olive Garden for dinner.  We had eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti also their good salad and bread sticks. We could only eat half of your meals, so the second half tomorrow for dinner.  We also picked up a couple of their $5 special take home meals which we can freeze.  Later we had the last of the cake from last Sunday.

I got many birthday greetings on Facebook.  Always fun!

Spending in Walmart

We went to Panera for bagels and coffee and then to Walmart.  It was one of those days we didn't need much but spent a lot.  Had a few big price items.

Came home to drink our second cup of coffee from Panera.

We had leftover tater tot casserole for dinner.  Just as good the second day!

This refers to the Harley Motorcycle tourist who got too close to the bison in the Black Hills.

Podiatrist today

I had an appointment with the podiatrist this morning concerning the lump on the side of my fool.  Turns out it is a bone that has shifted.  It had gotten calloused and had a blood blister which the doctor was able to take of the problem.  He wants me to get special shoes which I may do as my insurance is suppose to pay for them.

I made Don's favorite for dinner - tater tot casserole

Sheila came over in the evening with vegetables from her CSA box and for a visit.

Taco Tuesday

After coffee and watching the Today Show we went in search of hearing aids for Don.  Found the place in Sam's Club is closed until next week.  The place in Costco was jammed with people.  We did pick up information at both.

Picked up lunch at McDonald's, it has been a long time sense we had McDonald's hamburgers so they tasted good.

In the afternoon I put in 3 hours trying to fix the old computer and set up the new computer.  I did make a little progress on the new computer.

Being Taco Tuesday we went to Taco Bell's for Tacos to bring home for dinner.

(Not) My favorite day

My favorite (not) day of the week again, why does it come around so fast.  We got the house cleaned, towels washed, etc.  Had my birthday gifts to put away.  Still some sitting out.

Finally got it all done, towels folded in put away, etc.

We grilled port chops for dinner and also had corn-on-the-cob and a big salad.

Pre-Birthday celebration!

We went to breakfast at Denny's.  Kinda scary when the server remembers your order, coffee, cream, food, etc.  Then we came home and read the Sunday Newspapers and watched Meet the Press.  (For some reason I feel asleep during Meet the Press.  Made me mad as I like that show.)

In the late afternoon we met our family at Doolittle's for dinner to celebrate my birthday a few days early.  Everyone has other things to do on the actual date.  After a good dinner we went to Sheila's home for visiting, gifts and cake and ice cream.  I got many fine gifts that I will enjoy - they are so generous.

Our neighbors cat chased a squirrel up the tree.  (Squirrel sitting on branch.)

Doing nothing

We sat around drinking coffee for awhile and then got a few things done.  Nice day, no rain and on the cool side for August at least.

We got dinner from Panera's - sandwiches and salads.  Always good.  Then watched some more of Downton Abby.

What????

We went to HyVee for breakfast, always good.  They also have good coffee.  Then we did our grocery shopping.  It looked and felt like rain all morning but the clouds dissipated in our area and the rest of the storm went north.  In the evening some storm clouds appeared again causing damage in many areas.  We just got some wind and rain, no damage.

Don had a doctor appointment with a ear doctor to check his hearing loss.  He does need hearing aids, no surprise to me!  So next week we will check out a couple places that sell them.

We had left over Chinese food for dinner.  I got some frozen egg rolls this morning so also had them.  They were good, but not as good as we get from a restaurant.

They got this right!

Dinner switch

Don had several errands to run in the morning so I went along for some fresh air and a change of scenery.

After a slow afternoon,  Don went to HyVee to pick up their Thursday steak special for dinner only to find out they are no longer doing that special after more than a year.  So he brought home Chinese food for dinner which is always good.

Sheila came over in the evening with vegetables from her CSA box and stayed for a visit.

Storm rolling in

We went to Panera for bagels and coffee and then we were going shopping at Walmart but clouds were quickly rolling our way.  So Don ran in for a couple things and we got home before the storm started.  I don't want to get caught in hail.  The storm didn't amount to any more than some thunder and rain.  It continued to rain into the afternoon and then cleared to a sunny, but cool afternoon.  We opened up our windows for some fresh air.

We had prepackaged beef tips on toast for dinner with a big salad.

Computers and their needs

I made a casserole for dinner in the morning.  Also some egg salad for lunch.  In the afternoon I worked some more on the computers.  The old one has updated and the update caused several problems.  Hate it when that happens, no fault of my own.  Thanks Microsoft.  Also helped Don with his continuing Honda GPS update problem.  He may have gotten the job done!

In the afternoon I worked some more on the computers now that I have two in need of my attention.  Getting tired of this!

We had the casserole and a salad for dinner.

Weather

How does house cleaning day come along so fast.  Good to get it done for the week.

Sheila and Ken got back from Denver.  We were having a lot of lightening when their airplane was scheduled to land.  They landed OK but had to sit in the plane until the lightening moved along.  Don't know why!  I'm sure they were anxious to get home rather than sit in the plane.

In the middle of the night we had a lot of thunder and some much needed rain.

In the afternoon we sat on the deck for awhile.  Had camper eggs for dinner and cinnamon rolls.

Sunday, August 9, 2020

Food day!

We went to the cafe at HyVee for breakfast.  They never disappoint!  Picked up some bacon wrapped steak for dinner which was on a good sale.

Brenda came over in the morning for a visit.  (Sheila is in Denver.)  Later we got the Sunday newspapers read and the Sunday news shows watched.

Along with the steak we had corn-on-the-cob and I roasted kale in the oven.  Had some "muscatine" melon for dessert.  (We call it muscatine melon but is is like a huge cantaloupe.)

Flabbergasted

After a slow start this morning we did some stuff around the house.  Washed some clothing, etc.

We picked up Rubens from Arby's for dinner.  They have our favorite Rubens.  Watched some more of Downton Abby.

My parents used a lot of these words and now I use some!

Bagels, sprinkles and pizza

Back to Panera for bagels and coffee and then to HyVee for groceries.  I only needed a couple things but ended up with three bags full.

It looked like rain all day, we finally got some sprinkles mid afternoon.  I noticed today how dry our grass looks, could use a good rain.

We picked up a pizza for dinner, been awhile!

Doctor day

Today was my annual health physical.  Still waiting for the lab results but otherwise all is well.  She thinks the lump on my foot is a cyst or blood blister - need my podiatrist again!

Then we went to Panera's for bagels and coffee.  I was getting to really needed the coffee.

We had leftovers for dinner along with some fresh green beans.  I'm glad the doctor day is over!

Food and computers

We went to Perkins for our favorite potato pancakes and then to Walmart.  I had some good coupons and saved about $17, a couple big items with big coupons!

I worked on the new computer, making some progress.  Then I decided to see what Don's problem with the Honda GPS update and quickly found that he wasn't exactly following directions.

We went to Culver's for dinner, had shrimp which was good.  Don wanted to go to use his birthday coupon for a free sundae as it was expiring today.

Sheila came over in the evening with vegetables from her CSA box.

Nice weather!

Another beautiful day - what did we do right to get such nice weather in August?

My back hurt into the night even though I took some meds.  At 2:30 AM I couldn't take it any longer and woke Don up to put a lidocaine patch on the painful area.  Shortly thereafter I went to sleep for the rest of the night.  I took the patch off to take a shower but soon had to have another one on.  Thankfully the patches help.

I made my version of goulash for dinner.  Have enough leftovers for another meal.

Monday - doctor, back and KFC

Don started the week with a doctor appointment, took most of the morning with driving.  He needs to find a doctor a little closer to our house.  Anyway all is well.

Meanwhile I cleaned the house.  Somehow I hurt the upper left part of my back, it bothered me the rest of the day.  I was going to fix dinner but Don decided, because of my back pain, that we should pick up KFC chicken for dinner.  I didn't argue too much!

It was another beautiful day.  We had the windows open all day.  Very unusual weather for August in Minnesota - but we are enjoying.

This is SO Don:

Sunday in Apple Valley

We could 't decide where to have breakfast so we went to Panera again.  Came home and read some of the Sunday newspapers and watched Meet the Press.  In the afternoon Sheila came over for a visit.

We finished the newspapers in the afternoon.  Had salad, bacon wrapped steak and corn-on-the-cob for dinner.  Watched some TV we had taped earlier.

This is a thinker---

Sunday

We went to Denny's for breakfast and then got gas for the month!

In the afternoon Sheila and Brenda (and dog Java) came over for a visit.  We grilled bacon wrapped steak for dinner and had huge cobs of corn-on-the-cob and a huge salad with fresh cucumber and pepper.

August 1

Sat around and drank coffee and then cleaned one shelf in my bathroom cupboard.

Nice weather but slow day.  We got salads from Panera for dinner and watched more Downton Abby.
