Happy Halloween!

We got up a little early this morning to go to Cracker Barrow.  It is a distance away and it fills up early.  We were seated right away and quickly got our breakfast.  When we left people were waiting.

Sheila and Brenda came over for a visit in the morning.  In the afternoon we were ready for a good Sunday nap!

Don got Chinees dinners for dinner.  Like last year we had NO Trick or Treaters. That sadly leaves more Reese's for us!

Halloween Eve

It looks nice outside but it is cold.  We had some fog for awhile.

We got our new passports in the mail and so now I have to change our cruise booking.  Hopefully it will let we delete the old passport numbers and add the new.  Sometimes have problems with that app.

For dinner we decided to grill our Sunday steak as it is warmer out today.  We had a lettuce salad and a store bought potato salad.

Pie and cords

We went to Panera for breakfast.  The sun was out but there was a cold wind.  This will be our last time at this Panera location as they are moving a few blocks away and won't be open until next Wednesday.

Then to HyVee for groceries.  Didn't need much but sure spent plenty.

In the afternoon we gathered all our cords - old style phone, cell phone, old style TV and "who knows" cords.  We ended up with a few in a drawer and a big box of them to take to charity in case someone can use them.

For dinner we went to Perkins as we've wanted to have their hamburger special.  It is a specialty hamburger, fries (we substituted salad) and a slice of pie.  We took the pie home and ate it later.  Don had double berry pie and I had peanut butter pie.  My pie was so sweet it about made me sick, but it sure was good going down!

Home day

Still cold and wet outside, good day to stay home.

I finally got another pair of pants hemmed but that is about all I accomplished.

Don picked up the Thursday steak special from HyVee for dinner.

Cold, rain, wind

We went to Panera this morning for breakfast and then to Walmart.  The temperature outside wasn't too cold but the wind made it awful.  It rained some in the afternoon, glad I didn't need to go outside.

Waffles and bacon for dinner.  A good meal for a cold wet night.

Getting stuff done

Don went off to Sam's Club to have the tires on the car balanced and rotated.  I got dinner started in the crock pot and then spent time on the computer catching up on things.  He came home quickly, seems they couldn't get him in until mid-November as they have a shortage of employees who can do the work.

With a little convincing I got Don to wash the outside of the Livingroom window and the storm door.  They both got dirt on them from when he power washed the overhang over the front steps.  Didn't want to look though those windows all winter!

The stuffed pork chops from the crock pot turned out to be very good.  Also had a salad and asparagus.  Don had purchased some blueberries so we had a few of those for dessert.

Another nice day!

Another week starts and starts with a clean house.  Time to clean again.  Don dusted the ceiling fans with a long-handled duster, he wasn't too happy about the job.  Best thing - done for a week!

We had Bacon/Lettice/Tomato sandwiches for dinner with some purchased potato salad.  Then we finally finished our huge pumpkin pie!

Sunday

We slept in a little this morning, had been a long time since we had done that.  We went to HyVee for breakfast.  Their grocery ad came in the email while we were there and we wanted a couple things before they sold out.

Brenda and Scott and Sheila came over for a visit later in the morning.

I hadn't slept much last night so a nice Sunday afternoon nap felt good!

For dinner we had salad, steak, asparagus and a left over backed potato which we split.  Then some more of our huge pumpkin pie.

This is Halloween week so I will share some of my Halloween cartoons!

Freeze

Still no fix to recording our channel 11 so we record other channel's news, weather, etc.

The temperature got down to 28 degrees last night so that was our first frost.  Don brought two plants into the garage as it isn't suppose to freeze again for a week, so we can put them back outside.

We picked up a pizza for dinner.  Later went to watch the national news and surprise our channel 11 was working and had recorded the news.

Cold inside and out

We went to Panera for coffee and bagels this morning and then went to HyVee for groceries.  I dug out my heaver wrap and was glad I did.  I didn't take it off in Panera as it was cold inside.

For dinner we went to Culver's, hadn't been there for a long time.  We ordered their shrimp basket which is shrimp, fries and drink.  They were willing to substitute Cole slaw for the fries which made the meal all the better.  Then, of course, we had a small dish of their frozen yogurt of the day "salted caramel pecan pie" which was very good.  Culvers was even colder than Panera was this morning - I wasn't the only one complaining.  I don't think places have their heat turned on yet.

10212021

One of the TV channels we watch a lot upped the power on their antenna.  They said it was SO simple to reprogram our TV and we would be up and running.  I had my doubts and they were founded.  We can get the picture but not the show name OR we can get the show name but not the picture.  We can watch the shows but can not record them.  I have tried everything and finally said I was not wasting more time as I have things to do.  Don, who seemed to have a lot of ideas, took over.  He was also unsuccessful.  He went to Best Buy for help and couldn't find anyone who would talk to him.  So problem on hold for now.  Morning waisted.

We did stuff around the house, read and did Sudokus in the afternoon.

Left over chicken for dinner and more of our huge pumpkin pie.

Lightening

We had potato pancakes at Perkins this morning.  Good as always.  Then we went to Walmart.  It had rained in the early morning but some blue sky when we were out.  In the afternoon we had a full-fledged thunder storm go through.  Lots of lightening around our house, but not much rain.

The oil helped the sewing machine and I was actually able to use it.

Dinner was more of the chicken we bought at Sam's yesterday.  Still have more we will use for sandwiches.

Good trip to Sam's Club

We went to Sam's Club today after two aborted attempts last week - ran out of time.  We needed a new battery operated clock for by the TV.  We quickly found one and also picked up a roasted chicken and a huge pumpkin pie both for a good price.  We did self check-out and went to pay the $43 we owed.  The computer told us we had a $94 credit.  We thought something was wrong so called for help, the person told us it was a rebate on something we had purchased last year.  That would probably be Don's hearing aids.  So we still have a nice credit at Sam's! That was a pleasant surprise!!!

Then to make the trip even better, their lunch counter was open for the first time since the pandemic.  We stopped for lunch of 2 slices of pizza and a large pop each for $2.50 each.

Don brought my old sewing machine in the house as I have some pants to hem.  After spending an hour cleaning it up, I tried it and it seemed like it needed oil.

We had the chicken, salad and pumpkin pie for dinner!

Furnice

Another stab at cleaning the house.

About noon the furnace man came to check our furnace.  He cleaned and adjusted and said everything looked good but the furnace is getting old.  We should think about a new one in two/three years.  Just how I want to spend my money!

We had bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwiches for dinner.  Always good!

More nice weather!

Breakfast at Denny's.  We don't even have to order, the server knows our order!

Sheila came over later in the morning.  In the afternoon we read the Sunday Newspapers and watched the Sunday news shows.

Don grilled a ham steak for dinner and we also had baked potatoes and salad.

Lazy Saturday

A cool but nice day.  We watched our Saturday morning TV shows we usually watch and did some stuff around the house.  Mostly a lazy day.

We picked up dinner at Pancheros.

Perkins on a Friday?

We went to Panera for a breakfast of bagels.  Not many people there today, you never know!  They have the front glass entry repaired and it looked like they were about to put together the west side of the restaurant where the car came through a couple weeks ago.  It will be nice to have the main entrance open again.

Then we went to HyVee for groceries.  I bought a lot but not much for dinners,  I couldn't think of anything that sounded good and neither could Don.  Guess we will have to eat out all of next week!

We met daughter Brenda for dinner at Perkins.  She has a busy weekend ahead!

Cold wind!

We went out today - Don went to Menards while I sat in the car, it was a quick trip.  Then we went to Fleet Farm.  They had a couple things on sale we wanted.  Finally a stop at McDonalds for hamburgers, it had been awhile.

It is still cool and windy, staying inside is a good plan!

Don picked up HyVee's steak special for dinner.

Forecast gone wrong

Today is Sheila and Ken's 31st wedding anniversary!

When we got up we had rain sprinkles on our deck.  A few sprinkles in the afternoon.  A little wind.  Nothing like what the weather people have been warning us about for 3 days.  Can't they ever get it right - except for when they look out their window.

We stayed home because of the storm warnings.  It was a slow day.  I fixed tater tot casserole for dinner, Don's favorite.

Shopping

We went to Panera today for bagels and then to Walmart.  We usually do this on Wednesday but there are rain, wind and storm warnings for tomorrow plus this is "bakers dozen" day at Panera and we needed some more bagels at home.

We keep hearing about shortages - empty shelves - at stores.  At Walmart today there were no empty shelves, we got everything we wanted.  Media Hype???  If the media says it often enough it will be true.  In this case everyone will run out and buy up and sure enough - empty shelves.

For dinner we had stir fry from a bag that was heated in the frying pan.  It was actually very good!  Also had a salad and breadsticks.

Clean house!

Another house cleaning day, good news is done for a week!

Otherwise a slow day.  I continue to read my book "Parle" .

We had "camper eggs" for dinner along with cinnamon rolls.

Poor Puppy

We went to Valley Dinner for breakfast, they have the BEST omelets.  Then home to read the Sunday Newspaper.  Sheila came over for a visit, she got a call from her husband Ken that their son's (who was visiting from Iowa) dog had an accident and had a bad broken leg.  Sheila rushed off to meet them at the Vets.  The poor puppy, Juneau, had to have surgery on the leg tomorrow.  Josh had to go back to Iowa for school, I'm sure he would have rather stayed.

We watched the Sunday news shows in the afternoon and evening.  Don grilled pork chops for dinner, we also had corn-on-the-cob and salad.

Saturday, October 9, 2021

Slow Saturday

We had a lazy morning which is good sometimes.  We still have more "house" stuff to do but it can wait.

After watching a couple Saturday morning shows we like we did some odds and ends around the house.  I have downloaded to my Kindle the book "Peral" so I am taking time to read.

Don picked up Chinese dinners for dinner.

Friday, October 8, 2021

Flu Shots

Back to Panera for bagels and then to HyVee.  Besides a few groceries we got our annual Flu shots.  In the past we had to sit and wait but today they had a pager they gave us so we were able to get our groceries.  Perfect timing, we were about ready to check-out when the pager buzzed, we went to the pharmacy and a woman was waiting to give us our shots.  No waisted time!

Don got sandwiches from Arby's for dinner.

Kitchen cupboards, pantry cleaned - at last!

We worked on the cupboards and pantry some more.  I thought I could do it myself but needed help.  Now the Kitchen is DONE.  (Although we need a new refrigator, stove, counter tops, cupboards, etc.)

I had to rest in the afternoon after the big cupboard job!

Don picked up the steak special from HyVee for dinner.

Wednesday, October 6, 2021

Panera, Walmart and home

We went to Panera for bagels this morning.  They are just about done repairing the damage from the car insertion.  Front door should be open next time we go!  We drove past the new Panera being build, looks like there is still a lot of work to be done, for one thing the parking lot is not paved.

Then we went to Walmart for a very few things, only came to less than $15.  That sets a low record!

For dinner we had Chicken Kiev, corn and a salad.  It was a cooler day, looked like rain on and off but got none.

More cupboard cleaning

Don helped me clean the top shelves of the kitchen cupboards.  It is not a good idea for me to be on a stool to reach them.  (Last week he helped me clean the bottom most shelves as I can't be on my knees.)  I have cleaned some of the middle shelves but still have some to do.

We have another exceptional nice day going.  Worst part is we know these nice days are numbered.

In the morning I made tuna salad for dinner.

Monday, October 4, 2021

And the week begins!

Good old house cleaning day.  We have a bit of extra hair to clean up (from the dog) but otherwise just the usual.

It was a nice day, as the say a "Chamber of Commerce" day.  Don grilled brats for dinner.

Lexi and the rabbit

Lexi slept well, spent a few hours on our bed.  She was ready and waiting for her breakfast.

We read the Sunday newspapers and watched the Sunday news shows as usual.  In the evening while we were eating dinner, Lexi spotted the bunny that Don had been feeding on the deck.  She was more interested in the rabbit than even her food.  Finally she would take a bit of food and go back to the window to watch the rabbit while she ate.  She never barked or made any quick movements - just watched.  We did a lot of laughing!  Sheila came for her later, Lexi was happy to see her!

Lexi visits

Today Sheila's dog Lexi came to visit for the weekend.  She is a good dog and fun to have a dog around.

We did stuff around the house and sat on the deck so Lexi could be outside for awhile.

We got dinner from Panera and watched the dog and TV.

First day of October

We went to Panera for bagels this morning.  It looked like rain out but we just got a few sprinkles, enough to mess up our clean car.  Then we went to HyVee for groceries.  Don was looking at their pumpkin pies on sale when he picked up a full size blueberry pie that was marked $3.99, mismarked no doubt, but we bought it anyway.  Then he picked up a couple steaks that were $2.99 each and was charged just for one.  They had sales they didn't even know about!

We picked up dinner from Casper's.  They have a good walleye fish dinner on Fridays - fish, big salad, al gratin potatoes and their special bread.  Too much food!
