Logan Lucky

Don changed the oil in the car today.  I did stuff around the house.  We had the windows open, good to get fresh air inside!

In the afternoon we went to the show Logan Lucky.  It was good, funny and entertaining.  Brenda came over for dinner, she brought good French Bread and pie.

Ikea and Kohls

We went to Ikea for breakfast.  $2 each for a good breakfast - free coffee.  And it was very good coffee, the Sweds would have nothing but good coffee.  We did a little shopping.  Then we went to Kohls as my 30% off coupon was expiring.  I got myself 4 shirts and 2 for Don.  Came to $57, saved $174.

Lunch time, so we went to Culvers for lunch.  Finally a quick stop at Menards for  Don and we were home.

What was left of our Ikea breakfasts

MN State Fair

Today we went to the State Fair (for the first time in about 20 years).  I rented a electric scooter and it was there waiting for me.  Worked well, I could have never walked the territory we covered!  We had to go to a specific entrance to pick up the scooter and that was the problem.  One person told us we had to go to another gate to get the parking pass, we went to that gate and they told us to go to the nearby ticket booth.  Well they didn't sell parking passes but told us to get behind a line of cars.  We finally got the pass and went back to the lot where we needed to park.  Needless to say, we weren't the only ones that were having that problem.  Something the Fair Administrators need to fix.

Anyway we had a good day at the fair.  First we went to a church sponsored eating place for breakfast.  Even with the parking problem we were still too early for most places.  We had breakfast and several cups of coffee.  Then we went to the mini-donut concession so we would be sure to get Don his donuts.  By that time the Varied Industries opened and we spent a lot of time seeing what people had for sale - bought nothing.  We visited the area where clothing, painting and crafts are judged.  I sure would not want the job of judging as they all looked perfect to me.  I wanted to see the floral displays at the Agriculture building.  They were beautiful.  We got frozen apple cider there.  Then to the International Marketplace.  Again didn't buy anything.  But in the foods building we got cheese curds, they were good - can't remember them being so good.  We people watched for awhile, you can see anything!  Then got some olives stuffed with cream cheese on a stick, breaded and deep fried.  By far my favorite food.  We picked up some Sweet Martha's cookies and relaxed awhile.  Finally to the midway to see the bench which was donated in memory of our son-in-law.  Turned in the scooter and found our car and went home very tired.

Sunday

Breakfast today was at Baker's Square.  They were slow, but then we didn't have any pressing plans.  Then we went to Menards.  I went in just for some walking but I ended up buying the most stuff.

In the afternoon our daughters came over for a visit.

We grilled beef Kabobs for dinner.

Loss leader or Lost leader

It rained on and off all day, was just a cool miserable day.  We went to Target to get some peaches that were on sale.  None were marked on sale but we picked up some the same brand as advertised.  Also picked up other food and non food items.  As we were walking out I noticed that we were charged the full price on the peaches.  Makes me SO MAD when there is a sale that they don't lower their prices in the computer.  Almost makes me think they do this on purpose.  We went to Customer Service and got a refund of the difference.

After a good nap, what else is there to do on such a miserable day, we read for awhile and went to dinner at Celts Craft House.  Turns out our grandson was there as well!

Happy dog day to our grandpuppy Lexi!

Shopping

We went to Panera for breakfast and then to HyVee for groceries.  Their meat is so nice that it is hard to not buy some.  They also have an app deal of the week, this week it was a fresh pineapple for 99 cents.

This noon Alexa told me that my Amazon package was delivered and at the same time I heard it hit the door!  I got a cell phone external power pack.

We went to Best Buy in the afternoon to look for three things, we found them but decided to wait and look some other places.  First time we got out of Best Buy without buying anything!

Motorhome and steak

This was the day to check on the motorhome which is in storage.  All was well.  We gave our thirty day notice of leaving which actually will be Oct. 3, they told us they will need us to move it next week to a different site, they are resetting the sites as they are adding many more.  When we left we were blocked by a train, long slow train.  Then it stopped for awhile and began to slowly back up.  We turned around and went another way which turned out to be a very good idea.

Who knew I would still be celebrating my birthday today.  We saw an ad for a place that on Thursdays has a free birthday dinner for the birthdays that week.  I had a very good steak, big salad, baked potato and even cheesecake for dessert!  Don had shrimp which he said were almost as good as lobster.

We took daughter Brenda in for minor surgery this morning.  All went well and she seems to be feeling well.  We all had lunch at "Potbelly's" in Edina.  We had salads which were good.

Still more birthday pictures.

Eclipse and birthday

Double important day - to me anyway.  My birthday and eclipse.

We went out for breakfast, I got a free one from Denny's.  Came home and cleaned the house.  I washed doggie nose prints off the windows!

Then it was lunch at Culvers.  It was cloudy so no seeing the eclipse but it did get like dust for awhile.   A good nap.  Dinner at Osaka Japaneese Steak house with the family.  From there we went to our daughter Sheila's house for cake and ice cream and fine gifts.

A very nice day

Grill, chops, rain

Out for breakfast, we went to Perkins which we seldom do.  We both had their potato pancakes which we have not had for years.  They were good, very filling!  Then it was off to Menards.  A gas grill was on sale and Don had been wanting one so he got that which turned out to be a major project to get put together.  Just a simple stand up black grill!  Had to grill our pork chops for dinner on the old grill.

Just got the chops done and it started raining.

Lexi went home

There was a rabbit on our deck eating my plants.  Don tried to get it to move by yelling at it but it knows we are harmless.  SO we let Lexi out and she chased it up over the hill.  We were very concerned that she wouldn't come back so Don was getting his shoes on but I called her and she came right back.  She got treats!!!!

We both got a lot of pesky little things done this morning.  We finally have blue sky, still humid but at least not raining!

Sheila and her family returned from their vacation and picked up their dog from us.  Lexi was very happy to see them!  Seems really quiet at our house now!

More rain

We sat on the deck awhile this morning so Lexi could get some fresh air and a different view on the world.  Then we went to the grocery store and drug store.  It started to rain during our trip and rained on and off all day.  This is getting very tiresome and humid.

For dinner we had leftovers.

Spaghetti

Rain again today, it did clear up some.  Some places around the state have gotten huge amounts of rain.  We did some grocery shopping in the morning and then visited with an insurance agent to sign up for insurance on the car, motorhome and house.  We saved some from our old policies but it still came to a lot.

In the evening Brenda came over for dinner.  I tried a new recipe Million Dollar Spaghetti, a baked spaghetti.  Was OK, will keep the recipe.

Rain and more rain

It started raining some time in the night and rained most of the day.  Made for a muggy day.  Dog Lexi doesn't like to be outside much.  At least there has been no thunder to really upset her.

We got a pizza for dinner, otherwise a slow rainy day.

Tim Hortons

A new Tim Hortons opened in Savage so we went for breakfast there.  When we drove to Alaska we ate at a lot of Tim Hortons in Canada but first one we've seen around here.

After breakfast we went to Kohl's as I have $15 of coupons to spend.  I got a T shirt and pajamas for $13 after the coupons and deals.  Then we went to Walmart for some groceries.  Don found a pair of denim shorts on sale.

We had left Lexi alone at home but she was fine, albeit glad to see us return.

Being Taco Tuesday, we had tacos for dinner.

Muggy Monday

It started thundering about the time we went to bed.  Poor Lexi doesn't like thunder AT ALL.  We tried to comfort her as much as possible.  When the storm moved on, she slept by our bed until sometime later when she moved to her favorite spot in the entry.

She was full of pep all morning, she and Don went for a couple walks.

We did stuff around the house, otherwise stayed home all day.

Lexi and Sunday

Lexi tried to get us up at 5:30 AM but we told her to lay down which she did and didn't come back until about 7 AM.  We left her a couple hours while we went out for breakfast, etc.  She was fine.  She seemed still tired all day.

We read the Sunday papers and took a nap - a nap kind of day with rain on and off.

Lexi

Lexi (daughter's dog) had a good night.  She settled in right away when we went to bed, seemed to prefer the entry probably because it is cool and a small room.  She came in to check on us a couple times and went right back to the entry.  She jumped on the bed about 6:30 but didn't bother us until about 7 AM when she stared down Don.

After eating and a walk she was full of pep.  We finally took her out on the deck while we read the newspaper.  She guarded us from squirrels which wore her out!  Brenda came over in the afternoon for a visit and to play with Lexi.

Lexi was so tired in the evening she couldn't keep her eyes open!

Food and Lexi

HyVee for groceries this morning, didn't need much but I like to visit that store - a nice one.  Came home and got some stuff done.

We brought in 5 Guys hamburgers for dinner.  Later Sheila brought over their dog Lexi who we will be taking care of for a week.  After whining for a while after Sheila left she settled down until we brought out the pretzels.

Thunder and eating

Thunder woke us up during the night, the storm must have been right over us.  It was wet out this morning but the mowers mowed anyway.

We ran some errands and ate lunch at Culvers.  Had a small scoop of frozen yogurt, flavor of the day "S'mores".  We went to Panera for dinner, half a sandwich and half a salad.

Rain

Panera's for breakfast this morning and then the post office.  Decided not to go anywhere else as heavy clouds were coming toward us.  Good thing, we no more than got home and it started to rain and rained most of the day.  Not a heavy storm like rain, just a steady rain.

Productive morning

To get my disbursement from my retirement account I had to go have someone representing my former employer sign that I have indeed retired.  She obviously had signed these forms before so was really no problem.

Then we went to see if we could get a better price on car and motorhome insurance as it had gone up more than $600 this year.  We were not holding out much hope BUT it did come in about $600 less expensive with better insurance.  So all in all it was a productive morning.

Brenda dropped in this morning with some purchased cold brew coffee for me to try.  In the afternoon Sheila came over for a visit.

We went to Friday's for dinner.  We ordered their "Endless Apps",  they were good and we probably ate too much.

Rain, brakes and sandwiches

Don took the car in to see if it needs new brakes and surprise, it doesn't.  Should last for awhile.  One expense we won't have!

It rained on and off most of the day, turned cooler.

We got sandwiches from Arby's, came with free shakes.

Look what happens on my birthday!

Nation Night Out

We or I should say Don went looking for batteries this morning - I just rode along.  He found a car battery that will be on sale on Saturday only, so we will go back Saturday and buy that.  Still looking for motorhome batteries.

Another nice day, we have had a string of nice days.  Seems like the summer has gone way to fast!  In the evening we went to the Homeowners Association "National Night Out"  picnic.  The HOA furnished the food.  Certainly not everyone was there, but it was a good group.  Seems there are two age groups - young and old.  We got updated on what's going on in our neighborhood.
